    Pilot project helps USACE evaluate changing climate across Southwest

    During the next century, the Southwestern United States is anticipated to warm at a rate second only to Alaska, driving up evaporation rates, driving down soil moisture, and resulting in reduced stream flow, increased erosion/sedimentation, and increased wildfire severity and forest loss. With drought conditions anticipated to occur in 80 percent of the years between now and 2100, water is anticipated to be the defining issue of this century.

    Cochiti Lake was the scene of a unique part of the 44th annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Rocky Mountain Regional Conference, April 11, 2015, when 11 of the 14 schools participating in the conference raced concrete canoes at the lake.

    District Archaeologist Shares Historical Discoveries at Colorado Conference

    District archaeologist Gregory Everhart attended the 37th Annual Conference of the Colorado Council of Professional Archaeologists where he presented on historical findings on recent cultural resources activities at Trinidad Lake and John Martin Reservoir.

    A Good Relationship to Keep

    Recently the District and the Bureau of Reclamation teamed up to fix some flood damage at the District's Two Rivers project in Southeastern New Mexico. This isn't the first time the two agenices have cooperated.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- Reginald Bourgeois, the District’s STEM coordinator and a judge at the 2015 Central New Mexico Regional Science Olympiad, measures a student’s plane Jan. 31. The planes had to meet specific minimum weight and size limits to be eligible to compete in “The Wright Stuff” event.

    This year’s Central New Mexico Regional Science Olympiad took place at the University of New Mexico’s Johnson Center, Saturday, Jan. 31. District employees have participated in the Science Olympiad as judges and volunteers since 2013 and this year was no exception.
