    USACE staff at Abiquiu Lake hosted their annual Midwinter Bald Eagle Watch, Jan. 6, 2018. A record-breaking 151 volunteers turned out to participate in the nationwide survey that counts eagles along standard, non-overlapping survey routes.

    Corps monitors blue roof mission for quality

    Shortly after Hurricane Irma pummeled Florida with Category IV winds Sept. 10, Matt Bonner, a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, received a phone call asking whether he'd be interested in deploying to support the hurricane recovery. Little did he realize that he'd be on a plane the following morning heading to Florida.
  • Fedoroff selected for national tribal role

    Michael Fedoroff has recently been selected for a developmental assignment as the new deputy to the director of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tribal Nations Technical Center of Expertise, or TNTCX, in Albuquerque, N.M. The virtual position will allow him to work from Mobile while assisting to manage the TNTCX’s tribal consultation support program for both military and civil works.

    Hurricane Harvey stormed along the Gulf Coast of Texas in late August. As part of the federal government’s recovery mission, FEMA tasked USACE to provide engineering support. Infrastructure Assessment teams are a key element of this support.

    Abiquiu Hosts River Class, Helps Students Get Excited About STEM

    Abiquiu Lake staff hosted the first River Class of the 2017-2018 school year. The class is designed to get local fourth, fifth and sixth grade students interested in science and math through monthly visits to the Rio Chama below Abiquiu Dam.

    Forty volunteers participated in the first “Cochiti Sweep,” at Cochiti Lake, NM, removing 10 tires and about 1,400 pounds of trash, Aug. 12, 2017.
  • USACE TAA welcomes first female commander

    Col. Kimberly Colloton officially assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Transatlantic Afghanistan District (TAA), during a change of command ceremony Saturday at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Colloton comes to TAA after previously serving as the commander for both the USACE Albuquerque and Los Angeles Districts and is TAA's first female commander.
