  • USACE-Albuquerque District to expand phased reopening of lakes

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Albuquerque District announced May 29, 2020, that two USACE-managed lakes in New Mexico (Conchas and Santa Rosa lakes) have begun a phased reopening, and the boat ramp at Abiquiu Lake will be open as of May 30.
  • USACE Albuquerque District lakes scheduled to begin phased reopening

    USACE-Albuquerque District announced May 15, 2020, that USACE-managed lakes in New Mexico and southeastern Colorado are scheduled to begin the first part of a phased reopening.     The Albuquerque District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is beginning the revision of the Conchas Lake Master Plan. All members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments and suggestions before June 22, 2020.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District, announced March 13, 2020, that effective immediately the Cochiti Lake Visitor’s Center, recreation areas, and campgrounds are closed until further notice.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2019.
  • Cochiti Lake swim beach closed due to blue-green algae

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today (Aug. 22, 2019) that effective immediately the Cochiti swim beach is closed due to the presence of a toxic blue-green algae bloom in the lake. Other recreation areas remain open, including the boat ramps and the campgrounds. The closure will last until levels no longer pose an increased threat to humans and animals.
  • Portions of Abiquiu Lake reopened

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that the lake has reopened except for swimming along the Cerrito Recreation Area shoreline. Open areas include the boat ramp and land areas within the Cerrito Day-Use Recreation Area. However, the swim beach is still closed and swimming along the Cerrito shoreline is not allowed due to the presence of a toxic blue-green algae bloom.
  • Access to Abiquiu Lake closed due to blue-green algae

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that effective immediately the Cerrito Day-Use Recreation Area, at Abiquiu Lake, N.M., including the boat ramp and the swim beach, are closed after tests showed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom in the reservoir.
  • Cochiti Lake swim beach open for 4th of July

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that the swim beach at Cochiti Lake is open again after being closed due to a higher than normal spring runoff. The swim beach is scheduled to be open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
  • Fishing heating up at John Martin Reservoir as new reservation system awaits campers

    A few weeks ago, staff at Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s John Martin Reservoir State Park watched as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened the gates on the massive 70-year-old dam for the first time since Nov. 1.
