    Navajo Nation President Visits Albuquerque District

    The Albuquerque District welcomed Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly, March 15, 2013. Shelly visited the District’s office as part of executive level discussions on how to improve coordination and collaboration between the Corps and the Navajo Nation for current and future projects.

    Going Green: The Silvery Minnow, Drought and the Rio Grande

    As signs of spring begin to show in the bosque, environmentalists, biologists and others continue their efforts to understand river flow issues along the Middle Rio Grande. Of particular interest are endangered species in relation to water use and jurisdiction. Within the past three years, the drought has proven to be a constant challenge to create and maintain a balanced environment for the silvery minnow to continue to spawn. Due to the drought, the environment needed for natural spawning is not present.

    Army Corps of Engineers completes Army's largest solar array installation

    WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M.-- The largest solar power system in the U.S. Army is coming online at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., and officials gathered Jan. 16, to mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

    Jornada del Muerto – Journey of the Dead - for more than two centuries, Spanish colonists traveling between Mexico City and the Spanish colonial outpost at Santa Fe had to cross this desolate, waterless valley in south-central New Mexico.

    Cochiti Lake Project Welcomes International Visitors

    For the third year, employees in the Corps’ Cochiti Lake project welcomed visitors with the Council on International Relations (CIR) and discussed Cochiti Dam history and operations. This year, the group also learned about the aftermath of the Las Conchas Fire and the Corps’ tribal relations and partnerships.

    Bob Mumford, a park ranger at the District’s Santa Rosa Dam, wrote and received a grant from ENMR, a local phone cooperative, to purchase and distribute lifejackets and Whistles for Life to all the students at the elementary school.

    District Engages in Emergency Roof Repairs at Kirtland

    In early December 2011, a significant wind event damaged the roofs of several buildings on Kirtland Air Force Base. The winds were estimated greater than 50 mph along the flightline.
