    On March 27, 2012, Cochiti Project employees hosted seven professional water managers representing five counties in the Sahel Region of Africa. Specifically, the water managers represented Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal.     Cochiti Lake Project Welcomes International Visitors

    For the third year, employees in the Corps’ Cochiti Lake project welcomed visitors with the Council on International Relations (CIR) and discussed Cochiti Dam history and operations. This year, the group also learned about the aftermath of the Las Conchas Fire and the Corps’ tribal relations and partnerships.

    Corps, Santa Clara Pueblo Sign Historic Agreement

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Albuquerque District and the Pueblo of Santa Clara, New Mexico signed a historic partnership agreement Sept. 21 to conduct a watershed assessment for the Pueblo’s lands in the aftermath of June’s devastating Las Conchas forest fire.

    The Camino Real trail segments, known as the Los Alamitos Road, cross the Corps’ Galisteo Dam project. Portions of the road are still visible today downstream of the dam and also on private land north of the reservoir.

    Remnants of U.S.’s Oldest Highway Crosses Corps’ Galisteo Project

    Route 66 may have its kicks, but a dusty, mostly hidden and sporadic trail winding its way from Mexico City to Santa Fe, N.M. is still king, as the oldest of the Southwest highway systems. For 400 years, El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, the nation’s oldest and longest “highway,” was the only road into New Mexico and the Southwest, bringing thousands of settlers from Mexico and Spain into the region.
