    Area students get hands on experience in STEM education at Science Olympiad

    District employee Reg Bourgeois took part in the the 2017 Central New Mexico Science Olympiad at the University of New Mexico, Jan. 28, 2017, judging the Wright Stuff event. Area students took part in several events in STEM disciplines and the top teams will go on to the next level - the N.M. Science Olympiad.

  • Students Study STEM through Interactive Presentations

    Seventy students from two area schools gathered at the District’s main office to learn more about the importance of STEM and some of the various ways these subjects are essential in what the Corps of Engineers does on a daily basis.

    District Offers First STEM Internship

    This summer the District collaborated with the University of New Mexico to launch the District’s first eight-week STEM internship. Civil engineering student Corey Bowen started the internship May 28 and spent her time helping on several on-going design projects.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- Mr.Chaouki Abdallah, provost, University of New Mexico (left); Lt. Col. Antoinette Gant, commander, Albuquerque District, and Col. Andrew Nelson, deputy commander, South Pacific Division, participate in the Memorandum of Agreement Signing Ceremony. The District and UNM will work together to promote and encourage the study of STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineers and Math.

    Albuquerque District Takes Giant Leap into STEM Initiative

    A formal ceremony was held at the University of New Mexico where the District entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of New Mexico. Col. Nelson, Deputy Commander, South Pacific Division, participated in the ceremony.

    USACE STEM professionals excel in Afghanistan

    Without the female USACE Transatlantic District North professionals, mission accomplishment would be sorely hampered. We could not as easily execute our construction projects, or provide necessary oversight of the Operations and Maintenance mission for ANSF facilities in support of United States Forces-Afghanistan and NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan without the talented women who first achieved success in the classroom in pursuit of STEM qualifications.

    Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation's Great Minds in STEM 2012 HENAAC award winners include Albuquerque District teammate Arthur Maestas, chief, Geotechnical & Environmental Engineering Branch, in the category for Civil Engineer. Maestas will be recognized at the Salute to STEM Military & Civilian Heroes Awards Dinner at Disney World in October.

    District has Two Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Winners

    The Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation’s Great Minds in STEM 2012 HENAAC award winners include two District teammates: Arthur E. Maestas, chief, Geotechnical & Environmental Engineering Branch, in the category for Civil Engineer; and Carlos Felipe Salazar IV, chief, Construction Branch, one of two HENAAC Luminaries. Both employees will be recognized at the Salute to STEM Military & Civilian Heroes Awards Dinner at Disney World in October.
