    Lasting Legacy: A Father and Son’s Role in Building, Maintaining Trinidad Dam

    Louie and Rick Torres’s roots run deep in southern Colorado along the Purgatoire River and are intertwined with the history of Trinidad Dam. Louie helped build the dam back in the 1960s and 70s. Louie then worked on the dam's maintenance until his retirement, and his son continues to work at the dam.

    Pottery Mound cultural preservation study kicks off with sponsor meeting

    Recently the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District and the Pueblo of Isleta met for a kickoff meeting to begin a cultural preservation study of the pueblo’s historic Pottery Mound site. The Pottery Mound study is the first Tribal Partnership Program cultural resource preservation project within the Albuquerque District under recently updated guidelines.
  • USACE-Albuquerque District receives Army Safety and Occupational Health Star recognition

    The Albuquerque District received the Army Safety and Occupational Health Star flag in a ceremony at the district’s headquarters, April 1, 2025. The district is the first district in USACE’s South Pacific Division to achieve this recognition.

    USACE-Albuquerque District hosts Business Opportunities Open House

    The Albuquerque District hosted its annual Business Opportunities Open House at the Sid Cutter Pilot’s Pavilion at the Balloon Fiesta Park, Feb. 20, 2025. The event focused on networking with industry to discuss the USACE mission, highlight current Albuquerque District priorities, and build commitment to support upcoming opportunities.

    District’s leadership development class develops outreach tool in English and Navajo

    Each year students in the district’s Leadership Development Program work on a project that both benefits the district and allows the LDP student team to incorporate and apply the new leadership skills they have learned in the program. In 2024, the students developed engaging and accessible audio content highlighting the missions of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District.

    Twenty-three-year-old U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee Alexander Harper wouldn’t call himself a “Mad Hatter” but did admit to being “… just a little mad” when describing himself as a self-taught milliner.
