COCHITI LAKE, N.M., -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announces that the swim beach at Cochiti Lake will be closed Memorial Day weekend due to construction. The rest of the recreation area is operating normally.

The construction is to repair day-use shelters and other infrastructure damaged in last year’s September flood event. It is estimated that the swim beach will reopen in mid-June. The reopening date will be announced on the Cochiti Lake website below and on the Cochiti Lake Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/usace.cochiti.lake).

Cochiti Lake offers camping, hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating and other outdoor recreation at two public recreation areas: the Cochiti Recreation Area on the west side of the lake and the Tetilla Peak Recreation Area on the east side. Each recreation area has a boat ramp for launching vessels. A visitor center is open to the public near the park headquarters. Scenic overlooks are on both sides of the lake.
