Data

The URGWOM historical database is maintained in two files that has the format of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center Data Storage System (DSS), on file is only groundwater level data and the other contains all other data. A separate Hydrologic Database (HDB) is under development by U. S. Bureau of Reclamation and is currently being used for daily Accounting Model application runs.  Contact Reclamation for more details on the HDB database and the status of the associated data management interfaces (DMI) used with the Accounting Model application at www.usbr.gov/uc/albuq.

The following agencies contributed input data and supporting data for URGWOM development and application:

  • U.S. Geological Survey
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • U.S. Bureau of Reclamation
  • New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission
  • Office of the State Engineer
  • Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District
  • State of Colorado
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Data is imported into URGWOM using the RiverWare DMI set up for URGWOM.

Each record is organized by Parts A-F. Each Part represents an aspect of the data within that record. In general, the following describes the aspect that each DSS Part represents:

DSS Part

Data Element

A

Group

B

Location

C

Parameter (temperature, precipitation, diversion, storage, inflow, evapotranspiration rate, etc.)

D

Period of Record

E

Time Interval (i.e., day, year, etc.)

F

Description/Metadata

Metadata storage in DSS is difficult, and a metadata workbook catalog that allows metadata associated with DSS records to be stored and searched has been developed. The metadata workbook includes three lists, one list of all B Part / C Part combinations, and associated record specific metadata. A second list contains a list of all B Parts in the database and B Part specific metadata if any, and a third list contains a list of all C Parts in the database and C Part specific metadata if any.

The current metadata workbook catalog can be found here URGWOM Database Catalog July 2021.xlsx.  For illustrative purposes, the first few records in the July 2021 URGWOM DSS database have the following appearance:
