NATO multinational battlegroup Estonia demonstrate combat readiness during Exercise Bold Eagle
Testing their readiness to defend the Alliance’s eastern flank’ , NATO’s multinational battlegroup Estonia deployed alongside NATO Allies recently, for Exercise Bold Eagle. The seven-day exercise in Estonia challenged Estonian, French, Polish, UK and US forces’ readiness to navigate the complex, boggy landscape of the northern Baltics. Heavy armour, including the British Army Challenger 2 tanks – weighing over 60 tons – navigated the landscape, honing the critical mobility skills essential to Estonia’s defence. The UK-led NATO battlegroup is one of eight based along NATO’s eastern flank, demonstrating Allies’ resolve and readiness to defend Alliance territory and populations. Footage includes shots of British Army Challenger 2 tanks, Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and Estonian and UK infantry training in trench warfare. The soundbite is from Lt Sam Dulson, Platoon Commander, 7th Platoon, C Company, 1 Mercian, British Army.

Command Sgt. Maj. Briggs Assumes Responsibility of 2-503rd Infantry Regiment
Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Briggs accepted responsibility as the senior enlisted leader of 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, during a change of responsibility ceremony held in Vicenza, Italy, July 21, 2025. Briggs replaces Command Sgt. Maj. Sean Clark, who relinquished responsibility after serving the battalion with distinction. Clark, a native of Los Angeles, California, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation European Assure, Deter and Reinforce. His extensive career includes assignments across the 25th Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, and Ranger Training Brigade. He is a graduate of Ranger School, Sapper Leaders Course, and the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. Briggs, a Scranton, Pennsylvania, native, enlisted in 2004 and brings over two decades of leadership experience across elite units including the Asymmetric Warfare Group, 10th Mountain Division, and 82nd Airborne Division. A combat veteran with nine deployments, he most recently served as the Brigade Operations Sergeant Major for the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Scranton. Briggs is joined in Italy by his son, Nicholas. The change of responsibility ceremony reinforces the noncommissioned officer role in the U.S. Army and highlights their support to their respective command. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward stationed in Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build readiness and strengthen the alliance. (U.S. Army video by Capt. Jennifer French)
