    USACE’s Albuquerque District signs design agreement for Middle Rio Grande flood protection project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District signed a design agreement for a flood control project with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, June 13, 2023. The agreement allows USACE to begin Pre-construction Engineering and Design of the Middle Rio Grande, Bernalillo to Belen project, which is intended to reduce flood risk along the Rio Grande.

    Corps, Partners Sign Project Partnership Agreement for San Acacia Floodway Project

    Representatives of the MRGCD and the Corps signed a Project Partnership Agreement for the Rio Grande Floodway San Acacia to Bosque Del Apache Project on August 11, 2014.

    By signing the cost-sharing agreement, the Corps’ and MRGCD commit to a feasibility study to construct a 50-mile stretch of levees.

    District, MRGCD Sign Cost-Sharing Agreement

    At the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) board meeting Sept. 10, District Commander Lt. Col. Antoinette Gant presented a cost-share agreement to the board that was subsequently signed by her and MRGCD Vice-Chair Eugene Abeita.

    Bosque Project Earns Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence

    The Chief’s Awards of Excellence Program recognizes superior projects of innovation accomplished by the Corps and private sector design and construction community partners around the world. The District’s Ecosystem Restoration (Rt66) Project was selected for an Environmental Honor Award.

    Corps Checks Progress of Ecosystem Restoration

    The Corps has been actively involved in restoring the ecosystem of the Middle Rio Grande since 2007, when the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District initiated projects incorporating ecosystem revitalization along Route 66.

    Corps and Partners Celebrate Bosque Restoration Project

    The Corps of Engineers and six other agency partners gathered at Albuquerque’s Tingley Beach Nov. 18 to conduct a groundbreaking ceremony in celebration of the beginning of the construction phase of habitat restoration work planned for several areas along the Middle Rio Grande.

    After introductions and an explanation of the Middle Rio Grande Collaborative Program and Rio Grande Water Compact, the physical tour began on Day two at the Corps' Abiquiu Lake Project.The first stop was Abiquiu’s Diversion Outlook where participants heard a presentation by Mr. Fred Vigil, Director of the Rio Chama Acequia Association.
