On March 12, 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the North Fitness Center at Cannon Air Force Base. This building is being constructed in the parking lot of the existing fitness center. Amenities of the center include a four-lane, 25-meter pool; an elevated 1/8 mile running track, complete with stretching areas; and an open workout area, for both unit physical training and group exercise.

This new facility will be used to enhance combat readiness, by supporting the unit commanders’ fitness program. It will also provide fitness and sports opportunities to all users. One additional feature of the in-door the track is that it will be used for physical training tests during inclement weather.

This Design Build Project was awarded August, 2018. The cost of the project is $17,186,000. “The project is scheduled for completion by June, 2020,” said Eileen Shannon, project manager, SPA.
