National Public Lands Day Celebration at Abiquiu Lake Sept. 24, 2016

Published Sept. 16, 2016
Abiquiu, NM. -- For the 14th consecutive year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Abiquiu Lake will be hosting a National Public Lands Day celebration on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Activities will begin at 10:00 am at the Cerrito Boat Ramp parking lot and end for lunch at 1:00 pm. Volunteers will be assisting lake staff with shoreline cleanup, river cleanup, trail work, and landscaping. In doing so, volunteers will be allowed to enjoy both day use facilities and camping at no cost. We will also be broadcasting the event with a DJ from KDCE Radio, hosting an environmental education fair with the Wildlife Center of Espanola, and providing a free lunch for volunteers.

Why volunteer on National Public Lands Day? Because every time you enjoy recreating in the great outdoors – whether camping, hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, bird watching, or sight-seeing – chances are you’re most likely using public lands. Lands that belong to you! National Public Lands Day is a special day set aside where you can give back and show your appreciation for public lands. It is also a day to take pride in the ownership of our precious lands and join in a nationwide effort to improve them for future use. So, lend a hand and play a part in the stewardship of your natural and recreational resources!

The Cerrito Boat Ramp at Abiquiu Lake is located at the east side of the dam 2 miles west of the Hwy 84 and Hwy 96 junction. For more information, or details on how you or your organization can help, call the Abiquiu Lake Project Office at 505-685-4371.
