ALBUQUERQUE DISTRICT U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS PARTICIPATES IN ACTIVE SHOOTER AWARENESS TRAINING

Published April 23, 2013
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ district office, in partnership with the Albuquerque Police Department and other federal law enforcement agencies, will conduct an Active Shooter Awareness Training April 24, 2013. The purpose of this exercise is to train district employees how to safely and quickly respond in an active shooter situation at any public or private gathering.

The Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, participates in a mass evacuation exercise quarterly. This exercise has been in planning and coordination since January and significantly ties into the current national environment and recent tragedies.

Given the most recent events, everyone needs to be prepared with the hope that this type of situation never happens, said Master Sgt. Bernie Lujan, security officer, Albuquerque district. “Our greatest asset in the Corps is our people. There is not a dollar figure that can replace a life, and these types of exercises help to save lives,” he said.

All surrounding businesses have been notified about the exercise.

The district office is located at 4101 Jefferson Plaza NE. For additional information, call Mark Slimp at 505.342.3349 or Ronnie Schelby at 505.342.3353.
