B-Roll: US Army physical therapists build readiness during MEDREX in Senegal
U.S. Armed Forces physical therapists provide patient care in Ziguinchor, Senegal, May 6, 2026. This MEDREX is planned and executed by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and prepares military medical professionals to provide care outside of traditional clinical settings. By working alongside African partners, U.S. and Senegalese medical teams refine their ability to deliver rapid, adaptable, and resource-efficient medical care, directly increasing medical readiness for large-scale combat operations. African Lion 2026 (AL26) is U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual joint exercise, designed to strengthen collective security capabilities of the U.S., African nations, and global allies. Co-led by SETAF-AF from April 20 to May 8, 2026, and hosted in Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia, AL26 involves over 5,600 personnel from more than 40 nations, using innovation to drive partner-led regional security. Surviving a Unit Deactivation
Episode #52: Turning in property can be a nightmare with just a few pieces alone. Now add the complexities of a unit deactivating and the entire process can seem overwhelming. However, it doesn’t have to be. The Army has programs to make the turn-in process efficient. If your unit is tasked with a deactivation, you can not only survive but thrive. On this episode, CPT Garett Pyle meets with a unit that has accomplished just that. CPT Doug Smith serves as the S-4 OIC and SSG Andrew Arrison serves as the S-4 NCOIC of the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne). They discuss how they survived their unit deactivation and provide guidance on how other units can be successful in any type of equipment turn-in. Additionally, they provide some great insight into sustainment operations for Special Operations. FILE: 101st Airborne Division’s Desert Storm Operations Shaped Modern Air Assault Warfare
The 101st Airborne Division played a major role during Operation Desert Storm, demonstrating the power of large-scale air assault operations and modern helicopter warfare during the Gulf War. In 1991, the division conducted one of the largest and deepest air assault operations in military history, using helicopters to rapidly move Soldiers, artillery, fuel and supplies deep into Iraq behind enemy lines. The division established Forward Operating Base Cobra approximately 90 miles inside Iraq, inserting combat power deep into enemy territory in support of coalition forces. Aviation assets, including UH-60 Black Hawks, CH-47 Chinooks, and AH-64 Apache helicopters, enabled rapid maneuver across the desert, while Task Force Normandy, led by then Lt. Col. Richard Cody, destroyed Iraqi radar sites during the opening moments of the air war. The operation helped shape modern air assault doctrine and reinforced the division’s legacy as the Army’s premier air assault force. (U.S. Army archive video)

FILE: 101st Airborne Division’s Vietnam War Legacy Shaped Modern Air Assault Warfare
The 101st Airborne Division played a major combat role during the Vietnam War, evolving from a parachute infantry division into one of the Army’s premier air mobile and air assault forces. Deployed to Vietnam in 1965, the division conducted combat operations throughout the jungles and mountains of I Corps Tactical Zone near the Demilitarized Zone. During operations in the A Shau Valley, the Tet Offensive and the Battle of Hamburger Hill, soldiers used helicopters to rapidly maneuver troops, resupply remote positions and conduct combat operations across difficult terrain. In 1968, the division officially reorganized as an airmobile division, helping shape the modern air assault tactics and helicopter warfare doctrine still associated with today’s Screaming Eagles.
