Dam Tour
CONCHAS DAM, N.M. – For many years, the big end-of-the-year field trip for the local fifth grade class (including the parents) in Tucumcari, N.M., is a tour of the dam. Park rangers go to the school beforehand and give a history presentation with photos where the students learn why and how the dam was built and how it works. For this event even the maintenance personnel get involved! Here, maintenance worker Steve Chacon explains to the group what the stilling basin of the dam is, May 17, 2016. Photo by Taylor Atwood. This was a 2016 Photo Drive entry.
