FORT SUMNER, N.M., -- In Jan. 2011, the District was asked to conduct an assessment of a former Army Air Field on Fort Sumner, N.M, to determine if there was possible contamination. Enough indication of possible contamination was found to move the project to the Site Inspection phase. A Site Inspection involves the collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples to verify if there are actual contaminants and what (if any) impact on the environment.
