TYPE OF PROJECT:  Flood Risk Management

PROJECT PHASE:   Feasibility

NON-FEDERAL SPONSOR:  Doña Ana County Flood Commission

BACKGROUND:   The study is located in the Village of Hatch in southwestern NM.  The purpose of the feasibility study is to determine Federal interest and optimize a flood damage reduction plan for Hatch.  Flooding originates from two sources-Spring Canyon and Placitas Arroyo.  Structures and roadways have been impacted by flows from the surrounding mountains, significantly flooding the community three times in the last 15 years.  The most recent flood occurred in July 2006.. Initial investigations determined that there is a likely Federal interest in constructing flood control projects in the area.

STATUS:   Included in Fiscal Year 2012 Work Plan.
