Albuquerque District Commander

Lieutenant Colonel James Booth assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District on May 12, 2016. As the District Commander, he leads a civilian and military workforce of more than 350 personnel in executing the diverse mission of providing military construction, civil works, and interagency support throughout New Mexico, southern Colorado, and far west Texas. The Albuquerque District performs design, construction and operations and maintenance services for all three Air Force installations in the state of New Mexico and nine lake projects throughout the area. Prior to assuming command of the Albuquerque District, Lt. Col. Booth served as Deputy District Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.

Lt. Col. Booth’s previous assignments include: Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer of the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, at Fort Stewart, Georgia (with deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn); Observer Controller at the National Training Center Fort Irwin, California; Company Commander and Battalion Adjutant in the 5th Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (with deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom); Civil Affairs Battle Captain for the Coalition Forces-Land Component Command in Camp Doha, Kuwait and Baghdad, Iraq; and Platoon Leader, Training Officer, Company Executive Officer, and Brigade Logistics Officer in the 130th Engineer Brigade at Hanau, Germany.  

Lt. Col. Booth earned a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Engineer Management from the University of Missouri- Rolla.  Lt. Col. Booth is a graduate of the Ranger Course and Airborne School. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced courses, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. 

Lt. Col. Booth’s military awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), the Meritorious Unit Commendation (with oak leaf cluster), the Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (5th Campaign Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Combat Action Badge, German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge (Gold), and the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal.

Lt. Col. Booth is married to the former Melissa Harrell, of Sarasota, Florida, and they have three children: Evan, Cali, and Alex.
