On Jan. 13, Capt. John Deal visited Ms. Tracy Lewis’ third grade class at 7 Bar Elementary School in Rio Rancho, N.M., in order to deliver some gifts. Before Christmas, all of the children in Ms. Lewis’ class created hand-written books for each District employee deployed overseas. When the books were received overseas, the response was overwhelming. One deployee was so moved that she had a flag flown at her base in Afghanistan for the children and sent it directly to the school. Last week, Deal delivered other gifts from two more of the District’s deployees. The deployees sent a letter of thanks, along with a teddy bear for each child. Deal passed out the bears to the children; he also presented Ms. Lewis a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Lt. Col. Gant, District Commander, as well as a District coin.
