COCHITI LAKE, N.M. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Cochiti Lake announced today that the Cochiti and Tetilla Peak boat ramps at the lake will be temporarily closed effective noon today, June 25, 2026.
Water from the lake will be collected by aircraft to aid in wildfire suppression efforts of the McCauley Springs Fire in the nearby Jemez Mountains.
No boats or watercraft, including those launched from the shore such as paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, and floating devices, are allowed on the lake at this time. The campgrounds and all other recreation areas, including the swim beach, on both the Cochiti and Tetilla Peak sides of the lake remain open.
The boat ramps are expected to reopen Friday, June 26, 2026.
