Draft Final: Walker Air Force Base. Data Group Report

Welcome to the Former Walker Air Force Base Project Website.

The Former Walker Air Force Base is a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) located in Roswell, New Mexico. The base was deactivated in 1967 and turned over to the City of Roswell. It is now known as the Roswell Industrial Air Center (RIAC).

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began restoration efforts at the former base in 1991 under the FUDS program, when TCE contaminated groundwater was found in private wells adjacent to the former base.

The Corps is working closely with the City of Roswell, the New Mexico Environment Department, EPA, and a Restoration Advisory Board made up of community representatives to determine the best cleanup strategy for the site. Public participation is strongly encouraged.
