Corps, Partners Sign Project Partnership Agreement for San Acacia Floodway Project

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- Representatives of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) signed a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) for the Rio Grande Floodway San Acacia to Bosque Del Apache Project on August 11, 2014. The project will replace 43 miles of spoil bank levees with engineered levees.

This PPA is the legally binding agreement between the Corps, the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC) and the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District for construction of the project. The PPA describes the project and responsibilities of the Corps, NMISC and MRGCD in the cost sharing and implementation of project work.

The project was approved by Hon. Jo-Ellen Darcy, assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, on August 8, 2014. She delegated authority to Lt. Col. Patrick Dagon, Albuquerque district commander. It was also previously signed by Estevan Lopez, P.E., director, Interstate Stream Commission.

The project is broken up into 20 Phases. This PPA is for construction of Phases I and II, from San Acacia Dam to the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Preserve.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $287,000,000.
