    Corps Contributes to Investigatory Efforts at Base

    The Air Force, USACE, Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment and Shaw Energy and Environment have worked at a feverish pace to get the project initiated and begin meeting the deadlines imposed by the New Mexico Environment Department’s(NMED)Hazardous Waste Bureau.

    District Hosts Meeting to Discuss Rio Grande

    More than 80 Rio Grande stakeholders met at the District headquarters Feb. 18 to discuss urbanization issues and possible projects associated with the Rio Grande, referred to by some as the “spine of New Mexico.”

    Tribes Step Forward to Sponsor Work

    When the sponsor for the Española Basin project pulled its support for this flood risk management study in 1996, people assumed that the project was finished. But in 2004, an alliance of three Pueblos, Ohkay Owingeh, Santa Clara and San Ildefonso, devised a new, holistic vision for the project that made ecosystem restoration the centerpiece of river and flood management efforts.

    Warriors in Transition Make Key Contributions

    The Albuquerque District is one of a handful of districts in the Corps directly benefiting from the expertise of wounded soldiers assigned to fulfill key staff positions as part of the “Warriors in Transition,” or WT program.

    While old transformers, antifreeze and aerosol cans aren’t significant archeological findings at the District’s Cochiti field project, they do signal that an environmental clean-up could be necessary.

    Contracting Closes Deal on USACE-Level Award

    Crowd Spies Abiquiu Eagles

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Abiquiu Lake hosted its eighth annual midwinter eagle watch on Jan. 8. There were 15 confirmed eagle sightings, the most ever.
  • Paul Cravens is recognized for his effort by his coworkers. He was deployed to Afghanistan from Nov. 29, 2009 to Oct. 23, 2010.

    Engineer Completes MBA While on Deployment

    Electrical design engineer Paul L. Cravens, who joined the District in October after spending ten months in the Afghanistan Engineering District, drew upon personal experiences to complete his master’s of business administration degree while deployed.
