Cochiti swim beach to reopen for Memorial Day weekend

Published May 23, 2019

Cochiti Lake, N.M. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that the swim beach at the lake will reopen for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27, 2019, from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. The swim beach will then be closed Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

The Albuquerque District anticipates reopening the closed recreation areas at the lake, after the spring runoff ends in late June to early July; the exact date is dependent upon lake conditions.

As part of the reopening, the vault toilets by the swim beach will also be available for use.

The public should take extra precautions while on the lake, as there is increased woody debris, the water is very muddy and cold. To prevent drowning, life jackets should be worn while recreating on/near the water. As a reminder, alcohol is not allowed at Cochiti Lake.

While the lake elevation is higher than usual, it is well within the dam’s capacity, and the dam is performing as intended.
