Santa Clara Canyon
As Climate Changes, Santa Clara Strives To Become Resilient To Worsening Fires, Floods: High up in the Santa Clara Canyon’s burn-scarred flood hazard zone, a battered tree stump protrudes from new debris and sediment deposited by raging floodwaters. ‘After one event, an area may be incised by 20 feet,’ said pueblo forester Matthew Tafoya. ‘Then another event comes in, and it drops material in that area. You may go from minus 20 feet to plus 20, up and down, up and down.’ Margaret Wright/The New Mexican
